My name is Shiori.

That’s SHEE-OR-EE.

My name is Shiori and I am a content manager for a marketing agency called Lanio, where I help clients manage their online presence and use content marketing to build community. I am also a proud AmeriCorps alum of two terms with Reading Partners, an organization that empowers K-4 students and their communities by providing data-driven supplementary literacy education.

I was born and raised in Saitama, Japan in a bilingual and bicultural family, and earned my B.A. in Linguistics with minors in ESL and Music at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I currently reside in the DC metro area.

What I do:

  • Write copy for a variety of purposes, including for webpages, social media posts, emails, standard operating procedures, and communications strategy
  • Interview new clients to help design content production and distribution plans that align with their missions and help them reach their audience
  • Communicate effectively with clients and their blog contributors
  • Design and manage clients’ blog and/or podcast editorial calendars
  • Edit multi-author blog content for grammar, style, and SEO-friendliness
  • Edit and publish audio podcast episodes, produce accurate transcripts, and create micro-content for social media
  • Design client websites – from sitemap to page-by-page layout – and develop and update the sites using WordPress and HTML
  • Train new team members in transcription, audio editing, and WordPress

What I did:

  • Lead enrollment (33 students), tutor coordination and coaching (40 tutors), family engagement, and progress monitoring for an in-school/virtual hybrid K-2 literacy intervention program
  • Tutored higher-need students in person while simultaneously managing logistics and student/tutor needs for virtual sessions
  • Created resources for tutors to support Spanish-speaking students with phonics and vocabulary
  • Crafted progress reports for teachers and analyzed assessment data to customize tutoring for each student
  • Wrote for the Reading Partners Blog and collaborated on a ghostwriting project for the CEO
  • Designed and facilitated group feedback sessions for improvement of DC regional AmeriCorps program

What I did:

  • Collaborated with my awesome site partner to enroll 33 students in a virtual K-4 literacy intervention program
  • Coached 13 volunteer tutors, tutored 4 students twice weekly, and substituted for volunteer tutors
  • Forged strong trusting relationships with students and their families
  • Raised average reading performance by 20 percentile points in the first 4 months of tutoring
  • Co-wrote a new DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) organization style guide
  • Wrote for the Reading Partners Blog, including the most-read post on website at 17,000+ views
  • Collected, coded, and presented feedback data from AmeriCorps members for the national leadership team as part of AmeriCorps Leadership Committee

What I did:

  • Supported tutees’ work toward their academic goals by guiding their problem-solving processes, proofing paper drafts, and clarifying confusing parts of the course material
  • Strove to improve my tutoring by adapting my teaching style to tutees’ needs, communicating with professors as needed, and giving advice from personal experience
